Google Deepmind CEO Explains Challenges Faced by AI Models with Basic Math
Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google Deepmind, highlighted that advanced AI models like Gemini excel at advanced Olympiad problems but face challenges with basic high school mathematics. This inconsistency, known as ‘artificial jagged intelligence’ by Sundar Pichai, is seen as a major obstacle to achieving true artificial general intelligence (AGI). Hassabis emphasized that merely increasing data and computing power is not sufficient to overcome this hurdle and that better testing methodologies and challenging benchmarks are needed to accurately measure the progress of AI models.
